Machne is a market restaurant which strives to capture the market vibe. It’s a noisy place with people shouting and playing oriental music. The kitchen is totally open, filling the entire restaurant with enticing smells. The joyful atmosphere is unique. Each member of the team, from the waiters, to the manager, to the bartender, seems to have a very clear idea of their job and each person does his part perfectly. The menu changes every day, depending on market availability and the season. The cuisine is Middle-Eastern-Jerusalem style featuring locally sourced ingredients. The signature dish is polenta, served in a round pot with truffle oil, and a mushroom parmesan stew. The texture is incredibly creamy and still slightly grainy, and the flavors enhance each other. The Green Tartar is presented in a very original way: chopped meat on an eggplant mousse covered with a magnificent layer of green, almonds and parmesan shavings. The juicy, delicately flavored lamb chops, of which there are four, are served with two onions stuffed with perfectly seasoned semolina. It is a lovely dish served with a delicious date cream. A meal here is a genuine gastronomic experience, served in an electrifying environment. While this vibe is initially surprising, we are quickly won over by the exceptional atmosphere, the quality of the food and the friendly, welcoming staff.
