Gouje and Daniel is located in a semi-rural environment in a small moshav. The bay windows offer an unobstructed view of the vineyards and olive trees below. Here everything is charming, from the entrance way to the pretty furnishings, to the sloped roof, and the flowers. A combination of country bistrot and romantic inn, Gouje and Daniel has an extensive menu which seems to include something for everyone: from veal schnitzel to Indian style vegetables and lentil galettes. The range of dishes is lovely and based on seasonal products. The beef carpaccio is made with excellent quality meat, while the thyme flavored oil creates a lovely combination of flavors and the arugula provides a pleasing crunch. The asparagus with white butter and Ofek cheese is very good: everything is built around the fresh, tasty asparagus, enriched with Ofek, a powerful tasting cheese and covered in a generous white butter sauce. The bass with deliciously fragrant herbs and garlic is very accurately cooked. The fish is tender and the herbs give it a subtle earthy flavor. The Gouge and Daniel crack pie is different from that of Christina Tosi, more delicate, with the sweetness of the dough balanced by the tartness of the cheese and lemon zest. This dessert is a delicious combination of textures and flavors. With their attentive service, and well thought out, skillfully prepared dishes, it is not surprising that it is nearly impossible to get a reservation for the same day and the Friday morning buffet is reserved months ahead of time.
