For lunch during the week Casino San Remo is a very calm, relaxing place, located far from the busy, crowded avenues where you feel like you are in a small European city. The service is attentive and efficient. Hala Bread is served with a blend of Arab spices, lovely olive oil and tehina. What a shame that the bread is not homemade unlike the generous serving of well-seasoned, creamy homemade tehina. The fish filet and seared vegetables is quite original. It is very fresh and tender on fried challah bread with pomegranate syrup. Once over your surprise, you can appreciate the subtlety of the combination: the delicacy of the fish combined with the sweet syrup, all brought together by seared vegetables. It works well and tastes delicious. The cheesecake is simply prepared, accompanied by a lovely portion of red fruit jam. The base is crunchy, the cream is delicate and not too sweet with the jam providing most of the sweetness. As often in Tel-Aviv, Casino San Remo offers a different vibe depending on the time of day: in the evening it feels like a noisy friendly local bar, serving simple, fresh food with a few creative touches.
