Basta located in a small pedestrian street near Carmel market is an unpretentious place with a handwritten menu that changes with the seasons and market offerings. The wine list features very affordable Bourgogne wines. We had a tasty well preserved and properly opened red Meursault 2015 with our meal. Fresh vegetables of the day filled our plates including a perfectly seasoned kholrabi with goat cheese and hazelnut, a slightly spicy Eggplant and Marboukha, served with a refreshing tart tomato compote, and onions and lemon confit to go with the lovely calamari à la plancha. The apple and almond tart is dense and on the fruity side with a crisp base. Basta is a very good, small market restaurant with a few original dishes and ingredients combining fresh daily products and expertly selected spices. The lunch menu is an especially good deal.
