Gault&Millau Croatia 2018 gala dinner

Spectacular event for a hundred Croatian chefs

The launch of the first Croatian edition of the Gault&Millau guide took place on the 5th of April on the 17th fllor of The Westin hotel. Gault&Millau trophies were awarded to to the best chefs. Nearly one hundred chefs from all over Croatia attended the event. The promotion of the first Croatian edition of the Gault&Millau guide was supported by the President of Gault&Millau International, Mr. Côme de Chérisey, the global culinary star chef Edouard Loubet, the winner of five Gault&Millau toques, the highest Gault&Millau recognition, the most famous Slovenian chef Ana Roš and Gaul&Millau young talent of the year 2017 in France, Japanese chef Ippei Uemura.

The Ministry of tourism of the Republic of Croatia also gave support to the project. Gala dinner was attended by Mr. Frano Matušić, The State Secretary of the Croatian Ministry of Tourism and all the winners were congratulated by the Minister of tourism, Mr. Gari Cappelli.

The project was supported by the Croatian National Tourist Board, and Mrs. Slavija Jačan Obratov, Director of Destination Management and Product Development Support Division congratulated the trophy winners. Mr. Kristjan Staničić, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board also sent his congratulatory message to the winners. 

First Croatian "culinary Oscars" were awarded at the gala dinner. Vjeko Bašić, chef the cuisine of the Konoba Boba restaurant was awarded with the Chef of the year trophy.

Restaurant Monte and restaurant Pelegrini received the highest score and were crowned with four Gault&Millau toques. 

Mrs Ana Grgić, chef of the restaurant Zinfandel's within the Esplanade hotel received The great chef of tomorrow 2018 trophy, and Mr. Branimir Tomašić, chef of the Mala Hiža restaurant was awarded with The traditional cuisine chef of the year 2018 trophy.

Mr. Deni Srdoč, chef of Draga di Lovrana restaurant and Duje Kanajet, chef of the ARTiČOK restaurant received trophies in the Young talent of the year 2018 category.Young pastry chef Tea Mamut received The best POP 2018 trophy for her pastry shop O'š kolač in Split. 

Two more trophies were awarded: restaurant Foša received Payment Excellence Award restaurant powered by Mastercard and bistro Otto&Frank received the Payment Excellence Award POP powered by Mastercard.

Director of Gault&Millau Croatia, Mrs. Ingrid Badurina Danielsson emphasized her satisfaction with the fact that Croatian chefs enthusiastically welcomed the launch of the first edition of one of the world's most prestigious gastronomy guides, and recognized the philosophy of the brand, which Gault&Millau promotes for 50 years – "Luxury lies in the quality, not in the price."
